7:00 PM - 8:15 PMGetting Ready for Shabbat Shuvah Engaging Teshuvah through Poetry, Song, Meditation, & Reflection with Ed Kass
The Shabbat between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur is called Shabbat Shuvah, the Shabbat of turning and returning . Its name comes from aspecial haftarah reading that begins with the words Shuvah Yisrael "Return O’ Israel," from the prophecy of Hoshea. It is also referred to as Shabbat Teshuvah because it falls during the Ten Days of Repentance. Hosea focuses on a universal call for repentance and an assurance that those who return to God will benefit from divine healing and restoration. In modern times some synagogue communities have used poetry to reflect on their inner work of Teshuvah:our acknowledging how we have missed the mark and what that has caused in our relationship with G-d or the One-ness of our understanding, with others and within ourselves and our efforts and commitment to correct what we have done and behave differently. Together, we will read from a variety of poets and authors, share our thoughts, and sing songs of turning and returning. Feel free to bring selections including your own writings. If you have any questions, feel free to call me (734-644-7305) or email me at (Ekass18@gmail.com). I will be happy to send out selections ahead of time to entice you to participate.
