Architecture & Design Committee
Architecture & Design Committee
The Architecture & Design Committee (ADC) serves as the day-to-day project design lead for Bonai Shalom. The ADC will work with the outside Architect, Finegold Alexander Architects, and Bonai’s New Building Project Leadership Team to ensure that the design process adheres to the Project Objectives, Schedule, and Budget; it will serve as a liaison between the Architect and the Bonai community on design issues and will provide design recommendations for consideration.
The time commitment for this committee will be intensive and will extend through the end of construction; the ADC will meet every other week (sometimes virtually, sometimes in person) for 1.5 hours, in addition to meetings with the Architect, the Leadership Team, and the Bonai community. For a brief bio of the current members of the ADC, please click on the names listed below:
Jeff Levy, Leadership Committee Liaison
The ADC is seeking one or two additional members with background, training, or expertise in project management, interior design, landscape architecture, and/or real estate design and development. The right candidate must have the time to commit to the effort, experience working on teams and in committees, and a “get things done” focus and attitude. This is a “working” committee and finding the right person(s) is of significant importance. Therefore, the ADC will interview potential candidates and, depending on interest, choose one or two additional members from the field of interested parties.
Art & Place-Making Committee
The Art & Place-Making Committee is in the process of being formed. This committee will play a critical role in ensuring that the new building reflects the heart and soul of the Bonai Shalom community. It will consist of Bonai community artists, designers, and other members, who are passionate about the artistic details and ritual objects that will be incorporated into the facility. The committee will be responsible for researching specific ritual artifacts and artwork and making recommendations to the ADC; its focus will include both interior and exterior spaces. The time commitment necessary for this effort will be determined by the members of the committee.
Special Interest Groups
As the design for the new building evolves, the design team will be seeking input from Bonai’s standing committees and other members of the Congregation, who have an interest in specific design aspects of the proposed facility -- such as, ritual functions; educational needs; food service and social activities; safety, security, and IT issues; sustainable practice; and
administrative and maintenance requirements. The time commitment for each area of interest will probably entail 2-to-3 meetings over a period of several months leading to specific written recommendations referred for review and adoption by the ADC and/or the Leadership Team.
If you are interested in participating in any of these efforts, please be in touch with Cass Gottlieb at cgottlieb@michaelgraves.com. We look forward to working with you on this exciting project.
