Summary
Dear families,
Please join us to meet a finalist as we prepare to select and welcome a new Education Director! We have added Family Kabbalat Shabbat services and dinner on Friday, April 19 to meet our finalist candidate. The candidate will also be joining our school and our shabbat services to observe, teach, and lead.
Registration for next school year is open NOW! Click here to register. Please see the proposed school calendar here.
Early registration will especially help us transition to our new Director by determining if any grades will be combined, recruiting/retaining sufficient teachers, and planning for space usage at Bonai and the JCC. Please note that new school registrations are required each year for each student and do not automatically renew like shul membership.
Our Board is working on our school and shul budget, and we plan to increase tuition by 5-10% next school year to bring the school revenues more into balance with expenses. We also plan to implement an additional 5% late fee for registrations after August 7. The 24-25 budget is not final until approved by the congregation at our annual meeting on May 30. Tuition fees cover only 70% of school expenses, which makes for tight budgeting decisions for books, snacks, art supplies, field trips, space rental, madrichim, musicians, learning specialists, and special family programming. Please help spread the word about early registration, which helps us operate more smoothly, and helps current families take advantage of locking in current rates.
Volunteers and fundraising are especially valuable as we transition to a new Education Director. This year, the school depended on the heroic generosity of a small group of dedicated volunteers. For next year, we are asking every family to commit to volunteering in the school two times per student over the course of the year. Volunteer sign up opportunities will be available at the start of the new year. On the registration form, you will see a new option to commit to volunteering in the school two times per student per year, or alternatively, making a one-time donation of $100 per student in lieu of volunteering.
Financial assistance continues to be a priority. The office will continue to work with families to ensure our shul’s philosophy that a Jewish education should be available to all Jewish children.

Thank you for your continued support of the Bonai Shalom school and our goal of cultivating a strong Jewish identity and life-long love for Jewish learning for each student. We have an excellent school at Bonai Shalom, with passionate, caring, and creative teachers, relatable and inspiring clergy, fun and helpful madrichim, an office that provides tireless support in a difficult facility, and a school community - parents and families like you - who believe in the importance of a Jewish education. Under new professional leadership next year, I am sure the school will continue to thrive and grow, and we hope you will remain a part of it.
Thank you, Diana Blau, Education Committee Chair Rabbi Charna Rosenholtz, Acting Director of School Programming Gali Beh, Acting Director of School Administration Jennifer Herrington, Executive Director
